A small Wilderness Inn, built as a farmhouse/boarding house in 1864 at Chesuncook Village, to supply logging operations in Northern Maine's Wilderness, now on the Federal Historical Register. The Lake House is located 50 miles north of the Moosehead Lake Region, situated in the center of the last recognized wilderness area in the East.

The Lake House has been featured by numerous magazines as a "very unique and special place" (Yankee, Down East, Boston Glove, New York Times, etc.). Yankee Magazine selected the Chesuncook Lake House as a 1997 editors pick of Outstanding Places in New England.

Please stop in, accessible by 4 wheel drive vehicles, boat, float plane, and snowmobiles. With it's well tended lawns, stretching to the shore of Chesuncook Lake, overlooking Mt. Katahdin, the Lake House is a warm and welcoming site to our guests. With it's well tended lawns, stretching to the shore of Chesuncook Lake, overlooking Mt. Enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the wilderness along with the amenities offered at the newly restored Lake House.

At the Lake House we cater to vacationers, canoeists, hikers, family groups, or anyone searching for the perfect relaxing place "to get away from it all."

Enjoy your days here hiking the many trails, swimming by the lake, or take a boat and fish the many surrounding rivers and streams. Or if you prefer wildlife, take a canoe and visit Pine Stream Flowage, where you can also see moose, deer, beaver, raccoons, eagles, loons, great place for bird watching!

A canoe trip down the West Branch of the Penobscot River from Lobster Lake or Roll Dam campsite near North East Carry. You'll camp a night or two at one of the many State run Campsites on the waterway. It's a great way to spend a day or so traveling to the Lake House. After your stay with us, we can shuttle you back to your vehicle at Lobster or Roll put in.

The Lake House can accommodate 8-10 guests comfortably with 4 large sunny rooms overlooking the lake. We offer 2 modern baths with showers, electricity by generator, and gas lamps on the main floor for evening lighting.

Our guests enjoy three very hearty and completely home made meals in our tinned ceiling dining room, all served family style. We bake fresh breads, muffins, and pastries daily, and use only the freshest ingredients.

Our summer garden provides delicious organic produce and savory berries grow wildly along paths and in the fields, some of the best ingredients for home cooking.

We raise our own buffalo, beef, lamb, pork, and chicken eggs. The meat is professionally butchered and vacuum packed then flash frozen. We know what it ate, and when it ate it, no artificial anything! Just hay, grass, and grain, range fed! If you catch/shoot it we'll cook it. If you are a vegetarian, we cook great non-meat meals, just let us know.

We now have a Beer and Wine license. We have a great selection to choose from to enjoy with a fabulous meal. We also serve water, juices, lemonade, coffee, and Baxter Tea and Baxter iced tea throughout the day and also with meals.
